At the same time, the Russian authorities have not yet officially announced the acceptance of "Izdelie 506" into service. Each rocket is valued at approximately 337 million rubles, which is about 4. 2 million US dollars. Procurement is carried out in two versions of the configuration — with a conventional and a special (nuclear) warhead.
The main contractor is the Rayduga Research and Design Bureau, which also manufactures serial Kh-101 missiles, which are actively used by Russia in the war against Ukraine. The "Product 506" missile was created for the promising PAK DA bomber, which has not yet been implemented even in a prototype. In this regard, the missiles will be adapted to the existing Tu-160 strategic bombers.
These are modernized versions of the Tu-160M, which are undergoing deep modernization, taking into account the installation of new weapons and avionics. In order to accommodate "Product 506" in aircraft, the bomb bay mechanism is planned to be changed, and the first tests are scheduled for 2025. As noted, due to the declared flight range of 6,500 km, the missiles have larger dimensions than the Kh-101 used today, which required structural changes in the carriers.
According to the available data, the "Product 506" project develops the results of an earlier development - "Product 504". It is assumed that the new missile inherited the technologies of low visibility and increased survivability. It is expected that the missile will receive: Note that information about the promising missile was leaked in Russian specialized publications as early as 2015. Then the development of the system was associated with plans to modernize Tu-160 bombers.
In 2021, "Military Review" reported that "Product 506" had reached the stage of integration with the weapons complex of the carrier aircraft. It will be recalled that in May it became known that Russia is actively investing in the development of strategic aviation, while at the same time repairing, modernizing and completing long-range combat aircraft.
