By 20-30%: during the war street crime decreased, the police named the reason

According to Ivan Vyhovsky, the head of the National Police, in connection with the introduction of a curfew and the active activities of the police on the streets, the number of crimes committed decreased, but the total number of offenses increased. The crime rate in Ukraine has not increased during the war, but the nature of the offenses has changed. The head of the National Police of Ukraine Ivan Vyhovsky told this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine agency.

According to Vyhovsky, street crime decreased by 20-30%. This is due to the curfew and increased the presence of police on the streets. "We still look at the number of crimes per 10,000 people. At the same time, the head of the National Police noted that the total number of crimes increased, including registration of serious and especially serious. This is due to changes in the legislation in connection with martial law.

"Previously, simple thefts have been qualified as mild crimes, and now they are qualified as committed in war, and are already serious. Secondly, during the war we document war crimes," Vyhovsky said. Since the beginning of the war, more than 111,000 such crimes have been documented. The number of latent crimes, that is, the police detects on their own, has also increased. This is first and foremost illegal drug trafficking, weapons and explosives.

In the context of household crime, the number of petitions for domestic violence has increased, but this is due to improving the feedback and assistance of the police in such situations, Vyhovsky notes. As for the crimes that commit the military, their number has also increased, but in the scale of general crime, it is insignificant, says the head of the National Police. "We understand what we will do after the war.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs introduced the concept of" safe environment ", which envisages all the steps, as we will ensure the law. We will remind, for 2023 law enforcement officers detained 41 394 people in Kiev, who violated the curfew. Patrols have the right to check the certificates of the person confirming the citizenship of Ukraine or the special status of persons.
