The Foreign Minister of Germany Annalen Berbbn named the proposals of the Ukrain...

"Not that case": in Germany, they criticized the idea of Zelensky to deprive the Russian Federation of veto in the UN Council

The Foreign Minister of Germany Annalen Berbbn named the proposals of the Ukrainian President naive and stated that not all Kyiv initiatives were in the interests of Germany and other countries. Germany does not support the idea of deprivation of Russia's right to the UN Security Council, which was proposed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a speech on the Rada on September 20.

This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalen Berb, reports on Thursday, September 21, the German edition of ZEIT, citing the broadcasting show "Meshberger" on the ARD channel. Berbok stressed that it is important to distinguish between Ukraine's support and consideration of proposals, taking into account the interests of Germany and other countries. She also expressed a reservation on a proposal for a permanent place in the UN Security Council for Germany, considering it naive.

"We do not support this idea, and I have repeatedly made it clear to my Ukrainian interlocutors. This is not the case when we support everything that leaves Ukraine from the government," Berbb said. According to the Foreign Ministry of Germany, Germany, along with other countries, such as Japan and Brazil, presented proposals for the modernization of the UN, including the expansion of the Security Council. However, these changes will not happen immediately and will take time.

On September 20, Volodymyr Zelensky spoke at a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York. The head of state stated that the organization had gone into a dead end and offered a number of reforms. One of them is the deprivation of Russia's right in the UN Security Council. The President was motivated by the fact that the Russian Federation is using this right in the framework of its aggression in Ukraine.

"The veto should not serve as weapons for those who are obsessed with hatred and war," Zelensky said. In addition, the President stated that the UN Security Council should be more responsible to all nations of the world. In this context, he proposed to consider the inclusion of representatives of the African Union, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific countries in the Council. In addition, according to the Head of State, Germany should become a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
