This is the second agreement over the last few months, which reduces Hungary's dependence on Russian energy. On his Facebook page, Hungarian Foreign Minister Siyarto Peter said it was the most long -term in the country's history of the Purchase of LNG. He stressed that cooperation with one of the largest European energy companies will provide reliable gas supply over the next decade.
In addition, according to the NV, in September, the British oil and gas company Shell has signed a separate ten -year agreement with the Hungarian state company MVM Group for the supply of about 200 million cubic meters of LNGs annually, since January 2026. Earlier, in 2020, Hungary concluded a six -year agreement with Shell to supply 250 million cubic meters of gas annually from 2021 to 2027, which was the first long -term agreement with the Western energy company.
However, despite new contracts, Hungary continues to import gas under long -term agreements with Russia. Last year, deliveries from Gazprom through the Turkish Stream Pipeline through Bulgaria and Serbia increased significantly. Recall that US President Donald Trump recently made a demand to stop buying Russian energy, emphasizing that the initiative should take on NATO partners. Despite such calls, Hungary continues to receive oil and gas from Russia.
