The Russian Federation belongs to "other civilization", but this is not a reason not to cooperate with it - Orban

According to the head of the Hungarian government, unlike Europe, the main value for Russia is not freedom, but the preservation of vast territory. Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that the Russian Federation is a "other civilization", but it is not a reason to refuse to cooperate with Moscow. The politician said this in an interview with the French magazine Le Point on December 8.

The journalists asked the Hungarian Prime Minister whether he feels that the values of Russian President Vladimir Putin were closer to him than the values of the European Union. "Russia belongs to another civilization. It is impossible to compare with the European Union or the European Continent, for which freedom is of major value," said Orban. The head of the Hungarian government noted that the main reason why Europeans are engaged in politics is freedom.

He specified that it was a question of giving the maximum possible freedom to citizens. According to Orban, unlike Europe, the main issue is not freedom for Moscow, but the preservation of a vast territory, so we cannot expect that Russia will be similar to European countries. "Historically, politically, geographically, traditionally it is another country. An important question is whether our differences are the reason for refusing to cooperate. My answer is not.

At least because most of the world is different from Europe," the politician said. Orban states that otherwise Europeans should refuse to cooperate with two -thirds of the globe. He also stressed that he is in rational discussions on how to treat Russia. "I would not want the world to return to a situation where, instead of finding relationships and cooperation around the world, we think that the rest of the world is against us," said Orban.
