The presentation of the system was held at the conference "Technologies for the detection and counteraction of UAV", which took place in St. Petersburg. According to Polina Albek, the CEO of the Company-Development of JSC "First Air Force", specializing in the production of cargo balloons, the idea of creating a "barrier" was inspired by the experience of the First World War-at that time airships with chains were actively used for defense. Each airship is able to carry up to 30 kg of load.
In the event of a approaching drone, the balloons rise into the air and catch the drone with a grid, which then separates from the airship with the captured purpose. In this case, the claimed height of efficient operation of balloons is up to 300 meters. It is noted that the test of the Barrier system has been successful, and there are already preliminary orders for the system.
The production of balloons is engaged in the production of the first airship itself, while the networks are manufactured by specialized enterprises. Defense Express observers have noted that in addition to the balloons, the Russian company is considering using copters to raise and pull the nets. This approach can be especially relevant in the context of modern requirements for the protection of strategically important facilities such as oil depots and refining plants.
Currently, the owners of these facilities in the Russian Federation are engaged in protection issues. In particular, the unsuccessful attempts to protect the equipment of oil refineries with stretched cables have already been observed. "Against this background, it can be assumed that this idea of protection against drones through balloons or drones that will stretch the nets can really become somewhat widespread in the Russian Federation," experts summed up.
