During a conversation with wounded servicemen at the Central Military Hospital of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Putin said that such a missile as "Sarmat" does not exist in the world. "There is no such thing as Sarmat in the world. We don't have it on duty, but it will be on duty soon," the Russian president said. Defense Express commentators drew attention to another promise of the head of the Kremlin. They noted that he has been making similar statements since 2020.
Thus, in February 2024, during an address to the Federal Assembly, Putin assured that the Sarmat would soon be demonstrated in the base areas. In June 2023, at a meeting with graduates of military universities, he stated that "Sarmat complexes will be put on combat duty in the near future. " Moreover, in September of the same year, the head of "Roscosmos" Yuriy Borisov went even further, announcing that the rocket was allegedly already on combat duty.
Even earlier, the Russian president announced a whole regiment of "Sarmatians" before the Federal Assembly. "But propagandists in the Russian Federation do not pay attention to such repetitions. In the end, they were able to hammer into the heads of the Russians that the Sarmat, with a flight range of 18,000 kilometers, can attack the United States from the South Pole. Because, obviously, the Russian Federation simply ran out of rulers and globes," the analysts noted.
Meanwhile, the reality turned out to be much more prosaic. On September 21, 2024, during another test launch, the rocket exploded right in the mine. Moreover, according to open data, for the entire time "Sarmat" performed only one successful launch — on April 20, 2022. In this regard, experts emphasized that even in Soviet times there was a rule - an intercontinental ballistic missile must undergo at least 10 successful test launches in a row before it can be put on combat duty.
That is why the "Bulava" complex was tested for more than ten years. Thus, despite the loud statements of the Kremlin, the real putting of "Sarmat" on duty is obviously still a long way off. Moreover, this missile is a deeply modernized version of the Soviet R-36M2 "Voivode", the production of which was originally carried out in Dnipropetrovsk.
