Up to 5 100 UAH: taxi drivers in Ukraine are threatened

To spread: for refusing to communicate with passengers in the Ukrainian language, taxi drivers are threatened with a fine of up to 5 100 UAH. Language Ombudsmenko Elena Ivanovskaya called on all taxi services to check drivers for knowledge of the state language after a linguistic conflict between a taxi driver and a passenger in Kharkiv.

On September 4, the State Language Commissioner for State Language Protection commented on September 4 in Kharkiv and noted that passengers should be served in Ukrainian. For violation of the language law, penalties of 200 to 300 non-taxable minimums-ie 3400-5100 UAH are provided. Ivanovskaya said that in Kharkiv, a taxi driver "in a rough disrespectful form" refused to serve the passenger in the state language.
