Formerly worked for PMK "Wagner": the sanctioned Russian Il-76 plane arrived in Venezuela

Share: Last weekend, a Russian Il-76 cargo plane, which is associated with the Russian army and PMV "Wagner", landed in the capital of Venezuela. The Il-76 transport plane, registration number RA-78765, arrived in Caracas on Sunday after a two-day journey from Russia via Armenia, Algeria, Morocco, Senegal and Mauritania to Latin America. Defense News writes about it. The publication believes that the IL-76 route is a detour to avoid western airspace or possible checks in unfriendly countries.

It is also assumed that the plane delivered or picked up cargo on the way. According to the portal, aircraft of this type in the past delivered small arms, military materials and even mercenaries on behalf of the Russian Federation. It is known that Il-76 can transport up to 50 tons of cargo or up to 200 people. It is reported that the operator of the aircraft is Aviacon Zitotrans.

The company is currently under sanctions from the United States, Canada, and Ukraine due to its ties to Russian military structures. As the authors of the article note, Aviacon Zitotrans transported military cargo, such as missiles, warheads, and components for helicopters, all over the world, in particular to the regions where PMC "Wagner" operated. The Il-76's arrival in Caracas took place against the backdrop of heightened tensions between Venezuela and the United States.

Washington recently accused the Venezuelan government of involvement in the illegal drug trade and deployed military forces to strike at suspected drug-trafficking vessels. It will be recalled that Venezuela has prepared an appeal to Russia with a request for military reinforcements.
