"Air defense turned out to be powerless": the expert revealed which drones of the Russian Federation could attack Kyiv

Iranian Shahd-131 is virtually invisible to radars and very quiet, but carry up to 15 kg of explosives. On January 14, Russia could strike in Kiev not by rockets, but by Iranian drones-Kamikadze Shahd-131. Yuriy Kasyanov, a Ukrainian serviceman and founder of the project A. Drones, made this assumption on the Telegram. The expert noted that the explosions in Kiev began without announcing air anxiety.

As he assumes, Russian troops launched the drones of Shahd-131 ("Geran-1"), which are almost twice less than Shahd-136. They carry from 10 to 15 kilograms of explosives and are inconspicuous. Due to the small size, most radars do not see the approach of ShahED-131, and if they notice, only at close distance. In addition, it is not heard, unlike ShahED-136, called "mopeds" in Ukraine because of a characteristic loud sound. The fact is that the smaller model has "special" low -power engines.

"Vankel's engine, conventionally free, analogue of the British AR731 engine, which is built in China called MDR-208, and was translated in Iran called ShahED-783," Yuri Kasyanov said. He added that Shahd-131 became famous for the successful attack on the world's largest primary oil processing plant in Abkayka and Hurays Oil Refinery in the East of Saudi Arabia in September 2019, after which oil production in the country has doubled. In addition, such drones have already arrived in Kiev.

"The Abkaik plant protected three SkyGuard air defense batteries, and the whole area covered Patriot and Shahie, which turned out to be powerless against a group of small drones that are low and have a small effective scattering area," the expert emphasized. Yuriy Kasyanov recalled that Ukrainian intelligence reported the launch of Shahd-131 in the Russian city of Togliatt. He criticized experts who urge to make shock drones with heavy warheads weighing at least 50 kg.

"The larger the mass of the combat part, the larger the drone, the easier it is to notice. It is important not the mass of explosives, but accuracy, tactics," - summed up the military. Earlier they wrote about the details of the Kiev missile shelling on January 14. Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported an explosion in the Dnieper district and the fall of debris in Holosiivskyi, KMVA reported damage to a car in Darnytsky. The rocket was also reported to infrastructure.
