Incidents to avoid: the expert explained why a rocket flew over Poland

According to the analyst, to intercept a flying rocket at a speed of up to 1000 km/h, a land air defense system must be located at the point of detection. And there are too little to cover the entire territory of Poland. During a massive rocket strike of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, one of the missiles flew in Poland's airspace.

In this connection, the Polish Viewer of Defense 24, Yakub Palovsky noted that such situations could not be avoided, and the complete safety of airspace is impossible. The operational command of the Armed Forces confirmed that early in the morning over Poland, an unknown air object flew, probably, a winged rocket, which was tracked by radar systems until the contact was interrupted.

It is about the outskirts of Pshevoduva-it was in this village that a rocket that flew from abroad exploded a year ago. Palovsky notes that this incident immediately summoned a public debate, in which this situation is compared with a similar under Przewater and Bydgoszcz. At the same time, many commentators call into question the effectiveness of the Polish air defense system. Meanwhile, such incidents can occur constantly, and it is simply impossible to protect the air space completely.

The observer notes that through the Earth's curvature, the range of detection of landscapes of low-flying goals, such as winged missiles, is 30-50 km under favorable conditions. "So, if such a rocket flies at a speed of 800-1000 km/h, there is very little time to respond to response. ", - Polovski explained. As for fighters who are able to intercept the rocket, they will simply not have enough time to take off and accomplish the combat mission. And there is another detail.

Visual contact must be established before the aircraft impresses. "The rules of visual identification of goals are still in place - and there are good reasons, because there is always an opportunity, for example, a Ukrainian aircraft, which has lost its connection for technical reasons, to penetrate the Polish territory," Palovsky added.

In his opinion, the best solution in such a situation is the regular planes that are able to move quickly anywhere to intercept the goals, but long-term patrolling requires a large number of machines and filling planes, without which constant duty is impossible. Although such patrol was already carried out in the first days of the Russian-Ukrainian war. There is also a variant of airspace monitoring with balloons.

Since 2017, there is a plan for the construction of such devices, equipped with radars. But the request for the purchase of this system was sent only in May 2023, and the first radio engineer using them must be formed in 2026. With regard to land air defense, Poland is just beginning to create an integrated land defense system in a low range.
