Sweden intends to transfer to Ukraine RBS 70: What will help the Armed Forces of Anti -aircraft complexes

According to the Swedish Defense Minister of Field Jonson, anti-aircraft missile complexes would be able to weaken the load on Patriot systems, which are in service with the Defense Forces of Ukraine. In addition to additional financial support for the purchase of air defense systems, Sweden considers the opportunity to provide Ukraine with anti-aircraft missile complexes RBS 70.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the Scandinavian Country Paul Johnson after arriving at a meeting of foreign ministers and defense in Luxembourg. This was reported on April 23 by Reuters. "I do not reject this opportunity, but now we are focused on a financial contribution, and perhaps on (greater) RBS 70, because it can weaken the load on Patriots," Jonson answered questions about providing reporters to Ukraine's data.

In this regard, the Polish Military WP Tech military observers have told how the Swedish systems could be useful in the Armed Forces. RBS 70 is a portable low range anti -aircraft missile complex, the production of which began at the Saab Bors Dynamics plant in 1977. Ukrainian fighters are already familiar with him because the unknown number of RBS 70 got to the front in 2023.

Experts noted that these weapons have proven effective in the fight against Russian aviation, so another supply of Swedish MAS will be an additional incentive for the Ukrainian army. The RBS 70 design is relatively simple, which has both advantages and disadvantages. The first includes the low cost of production and operation, as well as the insensitivity to the electronic fighting systems, the second - the need to aim the rocket on the target before its damage.

This is due to the structure of the system, as rockets are given to the target by illuminating with a laser beam. The first versions of RBS 70 had a firing range of about 5,000 m. However, over time, the Swedes constantly made improvements, which resulted in the complex supplemented, in particular, thermal imaging sight, and firing range increased to 9,000 m. The maximum height of the air target reaches 5,000 m, ammunition speed - about 681 m/s. The mass of the missile warhead does not exceed 1.

1 kg. "RBS 70 is just one example of Swedish weapons, which is highly appreciated by Ukrainian defenders, along with examples such as Archer artillery systems, CV90 infantry fighting vehicles and Stridsvagn 122 tanks," the observers summed up. Earlier it was reported that according to Financial Times, NATO, led by Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and other states, additional troops to the Baltic States and other border with Russia.
