"Not depends on": Mexico does not arrest Putin if he comes to the presidential inauguration

Reuters journalists stressed that Russia is not a member of the International Criminal Court, which issued a warrant for Putin's arrest, but Mexico is. Mexico President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador rejected Ukraine's request to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he came to the inauguration of the new President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum in October 2024. Reuters reported this. "We can't do this. It is not dependent on us," the Obrador said during a press conference.

At the same time, Reuters journalists stressed that Russia is not a member of the International Criminal Court, which issued a warrant for Putin's arrest, but Mexico is. On August 8, Ukraine appealed to Mexico to arrest Vladimir Putin if he was present at the oath of the chosen President Claudia Sheinbaum on October 1.

The Ukrainian side expressed the hope that the Mexico authorities know that Vladimir Putin and the International Criminal Court, whose jurisdiction and Mexico City, issued a warrant for his arrest. "We believe that the Mexican government will in any case fulfill the international arrest warrant, passing the above judicial body in the Hague in the Hague,"-said in a letter from the Embassy of Ukraine in Mexico.
