NPP without protection and radiation accident: the expert evaluated the readiness of nuclear objects for the strikes of the Russian Federation

Only a third of the high -voltage substations of Ukraine are protected by concrete shelters, which protect against debris and drones, explained energy expert Olga Kosharna. According to her NAEK, Energoatom did not build such protection for substations around the NPP. During the last massive strike of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, which occurred on August 26, there was a threat of a radiation accident.

Possible future blows are not threatened with nuclear stations, but by substations that are transferred to consumers. NNEGC "Energoatom" did not build protective structures that could save them at least from drones and debris. Olga Kosharna, an expert of the NGO "Crisis Expert Nuclear Center of Ukraine" and Scientific Nuclear Foreign Nuclear Center of Ukraine and Scientific Energy Expert Out of the NGO "Atomic Energy of Ukraine" and Scientific Energy.

Kosharna spoke about the situation with nuclear stations and substations, commenting on the message of the Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga about the potential goals of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. According to her, during the shelling on August 26, the Russians kissed the substations near the NPP and because of this there was a threat of "collapse of the united power system".

Meanwhile, NAEK "Energoatom" does not build protection around key energy facilities: the expert monitors the tenders on "Prozorro" and has not noticed any purchases, say, concrete or other materials. "Three Rivne NPP units (first, third and fourth) were disconnected from the network, Khmelnytskyi operated not in the United Energy System, in Poland, and then the power unit was disconnected at the South Ukrainian NPP.

These were non -regulatory stops on the verge of a radiation accident throughout Ukraine, ”the expert said. Meanwhile, since 2023, Ukraine has built 60 concrete shelters of the second level of protection around high -voltage transformer substations, Kosharna said. In total, more than 200 such facilities. At the same time, there is no protection near the substation near the NPP, which is responsible for NAEK "Energoatom".

The expert stressed that the purpose of future strikes of the Russian Federation is transformer substations. "NAEK has not been able to build protective structures. It should be noted that after a Russian blow on August 26, when more than 230 means of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation flew in Ukraine, the explosions were heard in 15 regions and damaged objects of energy infrastructure, Prime Minister Denis Shmigal said.

On August 29, the IAEA received a note that talked about the threats to four reactors. Meanwhile, on September 20, the Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga reported that Russia is preparing for another massive rocket strike, and the goals will be the atomic objects. Ukrainian diplomats have warned the world public about the threat of a "nuclear incident".
