Estonia proposes to transfer all Russian frozen assets to ensure the defense of Ukraine

The Foreign Minister of the country has acknowledged that the EU countries are not interested in using these funds. In discussing the issue of the use of frozen assets of Russia, Estonia suggested that the Ukrainian army defense, not only percentage income, but also all assets. The statement was announced by the Foreign Minister of Margus Tsakhkna, writes Der Standart. According to him, profit is a small but important step for Estonia. However, Tallinn is also interested in using frozen assets.

In addition, the high-ranking official criticized the reluctance of the EU Member States to use these funds. "It is difficult for me to understand how policies interested in re -election will explain this position to their taxpayers," Tsakhkna said. At the same time, it does not support legal fears that have now been published by representatives of other countries. "I believe that from a legal point of view, Ukraine can transfer Russian frozen assets.

However, there is no political will now in Europe," he said. "I am convinced that it is legally possible to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine. That is now absent in Europe is political will," he said. We will remind, on March 12, Financial Times wrote that Ukraine can receive the first billions of dollars from profit from Russian assets in the summer this year. It is about assets at the Belgium Euroclear financial company.
