Gazprom Stroke: Ukraine will take part in an increase in gas supplies to the EU without Russia

According to Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, Ukraine will be able to supply more than 7 billion cubic meters of gas through its territory from Romania to Central Europe. Operators of gas transport systems of seven countries in Europe, including Ukraine, have agreed on cooperation to create the gas corridor "South-North" or "Vertical Corridor". The memorandum of cooperation was signed on January 19, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reports.

According to the Ukrainian Office, the implementation of the project will allow the operator of the GTS of Ukraine, according to preliminary estimates, to supply additional volumes of "blue fuel". "It is more than 7 billion cubic meters of gas through Ukraine from Romania to Central Europe," said Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.

The idea of the project is to connect the Greek LNG terminals with Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities through a transbalk gas pipeline passing through Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. Until 2019, the gas pipeline was used for the supply of Russian gas to the Balkans so Ukraine will be able to store 10-15 billion cubic meters of gas.

And existing pipelines from Ukraine will be able to transport gas to Slovakia, Hungary or Poland and not be afraid of restrictions on bandwidth. The GTS operator of Ukraine, together with the Moldovan operator and national regulators, is working to create the conditions for using additional capacity of the transbalk corridor with a volume of 6 million cubic meters. m per day as early as 2024.

"Having joined the vertical corridor, we have taken another step towards the implementation of our plan to become a gas hub of Europe and an integral part of the energy map of the continent," the Minister of Energy said. We will remind, in May 2023 it became known that LLC "Operator of GTS of Ukraine" (OGTSU) and operator of the Polish gas transmission system (GTS) Gaz System will be engaged in the construction of a new gas pipeline and a gas -metering station.
