New blow to the Russian Federation: Europe has found a new opportunity to replace Russian gas

The tanap gas pipeline, which is brought from Turkey to Europe, will be increased from 16 billion cubic meters to 32 billion cubic meters. Europe continues to change priorities in the energy market, further moving away from cooperation with Russia. After Norway, which in 2022 became the leader in the supply of natural gas to the EU, Turkey and Azerbaijan may well become a new powerful assistant for Europe.

The point is that the supply of gas by the Trans-Anatolian Tanap gas pipeline will double, reports Hürriyet. According to Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dionmez, the gas pipeline capacity will be increased from 16 billion cubic meters to 32 billion cubic meters. From Turkey, gas will go to Europe. The gas pipeline passes the territory of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, where it connects with the transadriatic pipeline (TAC), which is still being built.

Through it, gas will be supplied to Greece, Albania, Italy. For this purpose, negotiations were held to expand the trans-anatomian pipeline (Tanap) to 32 billion cubic meters of gas per year and a trans-adentriatic pipeline (TAP) up to 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Meanwhile, Europe's gas storage facilities have already been filled with gas by 90%. Exports of US and Norway have made compensation for reducing Russian supplies.

At the same time, according to the Head of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen, the share of gas from Russia in European imports at the beginning of 2022 was 41%, but now decreased to 7. 5%. We also remind that the European Union agreed 8 a package of sanctions against Russia.
