Russia has increased the length of fortifications: analysts have noted an important detail

The updated calculation includes defensive lines in the Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions, as well as fortifications in the captured territories where the Russians continue to deploy their positions. According to the Deepstate project in November 2023, on the eve of the Ukrainian Summer Counter, the total length of IFS was over 6000 km.

The new growth of analysts is associated not only with the increase of defense in the border regions of the Russian Federation, but also with the use of previously built Ukrainian fortifications, which were under the control of the enemy. "IFS was added to this calculation that came under the control of the enemy with its promotion. By occupying them, the enemy has a fortification for himself, often faced with poor quality construction on our part, or builds additional," - said in the message.

The increase in the length of IFS by regions (data in km, change in %) analysts say that nowadays the fortification strategy has changed: instead of constructing deep -penetrated defense, the Russians focus on a positional fortification along the line of combat. This is due to the fact that in a number of sections of the front the enemy managed to push the Ukrainian forces from previously prepared borders, or the front line remains unchanged for a long time.

Deepstate also emphasizes that on the eve of the Ukrainian offensive in the summer of 2023, Russia has made maximum efforts in defense, which became a key factor in the failure of this operation. And in 2025, according to them, the initiative goes to the Russian Federation, which is active, while the forces of defense are forced to prepare for the defense of their positions.
