"Red Line for Putin": The United States does not encourage Ukraine in the issue of Crimea's return - Politico

According to journalists, in a private conversation, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that Washington's attention is aimed at helping Ukraine to move where the struggle is going on, mainly in the East. The attempts of Ukraine to return the occupied Crimea will become a "red line" for the President of the Russian Federation, which can lead to a wider reaction of Moscow.

This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during an informal telephone conversation with experts, Politico reports. According to journalists, he announced such a forecast after someone asked if the United States was ready to help Ukraine to realize its long -term purpose to return the territory captured by Russian troops.

According to four people who are acquainted with the situation, Blinken stated that Washington "inactive" encourages Kiev to return the annexed peninsula under control. The main focus of the US administration is to help Ukraine move to where the struggle is going on, mainly in the East. Two interlocutors said that the Secretary of State had the impression that the United States did not consider a reasonable step to go on the offensive to de -occupy Crimea.

They stressed that Anthony Blinken did not say these words directly. Two other sources stated that the Secretary of State noted that the decision on where to go on the offensive and that it is made exclusively by the authorities of Ukraine, not America. This made them aware that Blinken was more open to the potential Ukrainian battle than Crimea.

"In general, the message is that there is a great uncertainty about how everything goes on, with real questions about the ability of either party to achieve great success," one of the people said. The US State Department has refused to comment on the content of the call. We will remind, on February 15 the media reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with Joe Biden in Poland.
