"Russia has to pay for its terrible crimes": EU will create a specialized court

According to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von Der Lyen, the Russian Federation and its oligarchs have to compensate Ukraine. The European Union has blocked EUR 300 billion in the Central Bank and € 19 billion in businessmen. The European Union intends to create a specialized court for investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators committed by Russia in Ukraine. On Wednesday, November 30, the head of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen said, CNN reports.

"Russia has to pay for its terrible crimes, including the crime of aggression against a sovereign state. Therefore, we propose to create a specialized court with the support of the UN to investigate the crime of aggression of the Russian Federation and persecute the perpetrators," von Der Lyen said. According to her, the international community will be involved in this work. The maximum support of this specialized court is needed, the European Commission Chairman explained.

The EU also intends to recover financial compensation from the Russian Federation for numerous destruction. According to von der Liaien, the EU has mechanisms to force Russia to pay. The losses caused to Ukraine are estimated at 600 billion euros. "Russia and its oligarchs have to compensate Ukraine and cover the costs associated with the restoration of the country," the European Commission Head explained.

The European Union has blocked EUR 300 billion from the reserves of the Russian Central Bank, as well as € 19 billion, owned by Russian oligarchs. In the near future, the EU together with partners can create a structure for managing these funds and further investment. Therefore, income raised from investments can be spent on Ukraine. And when the sanctions from Russia are removed, from these funds the leadership of the country will have to pay full compensation for the harm caused to Ukraine.

"We will work on an international agreement with our partners to make it possible. And together we will find legitimate ways to achieve it," she said. The horrific crimes of Russia will not go unpunished, the EU representative explained. Recall that Russian troops strike "fresh" rockets that have just come down from the conveyor. It is reported by Ukrainian intelligence. Previously, the focus was understood that they mean 100,000 losses of the Armed Forces.
