Restricted Google and Meta: EU is preparing for a counterattack because of Trump's tariff war

To spread: the European Union prepares countermeasures in response to a total tariff increase that Donald Trump's President can be implemented since April 2. People who use Google, Meta, Apple technology services will be affected by these countermeasures. Politico wrote about the EU's possible response and the Truce war. EU officials are looking for a solution that would be an adequate response to US behavior.

In this regard, they can impose restrictions on the activities of two sectors of the economy - Big Tech and banking, Politico wrote. The article lists the names of services that can be hit: Politico spoke about two major ways that Europeans can affect techno -giants and other US companies. The first way - the EU will apply the current rules of operation of companies from the United States.

For example, they will strengthen Big Tech regulation (for Meta and Apple), increase taxes for banks, slow down the registration of new licenses for activities in Europe, restrict government contracts. The second way of Politico was called "base". These are special "coercive tools". If the EU applies this tool, for Europeans will completely block X, restrict intellectual property rights to US companies, prohibit investing in the EU.

To make such decisions, there will be a support for 15 out of 27 members of the community. At the same time, politicians understand that the EU can be worse than its own restrictions, the publication wrote. "Our economies are so intertwined that even if you introduce tariffs or any other measures for services, you will harm your own interests," the journalists of the word representative of the Businesseurope group Luis Santos.

The article reminded the plans of Donald Trump, who first spoke of raising duties on only some manufacturers in the EU, and then stated a comprehensive raising of tariffs. In this regard, Europe will receive problems because they have a minimum trade balance: export goods in the United States 3% more than imports. Politico created an infographic based on Eurostat data.

Infographic shows the scale of dependence: Europeans supply the American goods (machines, products - shown by a green line), and instead receive the same volumes of services (red line). It should be noted that US President Donald Trump announced that on April 2, there would be a big event that would benefit the Americans. In a number of previous statements, the US President warned that he plans to raise tariffs for goods coming from EU countries, as well as Canada and others.
