US Army ordered written off M60 machine guns for an unnamed country: who will be a mysterious customer

According to journalists, the secrecy suggests that these weapons may be appointed to one of the US foreign allies, such as Ukraine. This week, the US Army Command in Newark, New Jersey, concluded a contract worth $ 14. 96 million with U. S. Ordnance from Nevada. At these funds, they acquire an unspecified number of machine guns M60E4 and M60E6. Army recognition writes about it.

The contract also provides spare parts, re -equipment and training sets, and this, according to journalists, raises questions in the defensive community. The US Army mostly abandoned the M60 machine gun decades ago. Hence the question of the recipient and operational needs for these weapons. The M60 machine gun under the cartridge of 7. 62x51 mm was developed in the late 1940s. He arrived in the 1950s. These machine guns were inspired by MG-42 and FG-42 automatic rifles of World War II.

M60 was widely used in the Cold War and became cult in Vietnam's war. The M60 in the US Army was gradually displaced by M240B. M60E4, M60E6 and MK43 are upgraded versions of the original machine gun. New versions are lighter, shorter and have a modernized gas system for greater reliability. But despite all the improvements, they have not become widespread in the US Army. For the most part, they are used in the armies of other countries, such as in Denmark.

Some special units and training units are still using these models. In a contract with U. S. Ordnance does not specify the exact number of machine guns to be delivered, the Pentagon does not disclose the details. According to journalists, such secrecy suggests that these weapons can be appointed to one of foreign allies, such as Ukraine.
