Intend to fight Russia: in the EU want to increase the impact in Central Asia - the media

Brussels believes that Europe is interested in the deployment of effective commercial and energy routes between the EU and Asia bypassing Russia. On Wednesday, January 17, in Strasbourg, the members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution to revise the European Union's strategy against Central Asia. Deutsche Welle writes about it on January 17. It is reported that the resolution was supported by 543 parliamentarians, 42 - voted against, 44 - abstained.

The document provides for the regulation of political and economic cooperation with the Central Asian states. According to the German WEAVPUTAT, Karsten Luke, the isolation of the Russian Federation through the war against Ukraine, the future of EU enlargement in Eastern Europe, as well as the growing role of China in Central Asia requires a complete rethinking of the EU strategy and the active presence of the bloc in the region.

"The geopolitical situation in the region is changing, and the EU would be wise to use this window of opportunity," Luke said. The resolution states that Central Asia is a strategically important region for the European Union in terms of security and transport routes, as well as diversification of energy and resources. In particular, Europe is interested in the deployment of effective commercial and energy routes between the EU and Asia bypassing Russia.

Luke stressed that in Europe and Central Asia there are common interests and common tasks, such as areas such as conflict resolution and climate change. The European Parliament also believes that strengthening of European-Asian relations will help to "counteract the influence of the Russian Federation in the region.

" The resolution authors point out that the EU is interested in strengthening ties with Central Asia countries, in particular to prevent the circumference of sanctions against Russia and Belarus. The EU calls on the power of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to cooperate more actively with Brussels on this issue.
