Howitzers M114 on the forefront: the Armed Forces artillery has been replenished with samples of World War II (video)

To spread: Ukraine's Defense Forces have been adopted by American 155-mm howitzers M114. This weapon was delivered within the framework of international military assistance, initiated by NATO countries in 2022-2024. Their application was first recorded on a video published on April 21 by a Ukrainian Dmitry Mackenzie serviceman. According to the statements of the Ministry of Defense of Greece, Athens transferred about 70 units of howitzers M114A1 from its own reserves.

This delivery was known during negotiations with the Czech Republic. According to the Greek military, the March Party of 2024 is probably the second in account. Earlier, in 2022, five such guns were handed over by Portugal, but not yet observed cases of its combat use by Ukrainian troops. The M114 howitzers are considered outdated artillery systems and have been in storage for a long time, not considered relevant for modern operational needs.

However, in a full -scale war, they found use on the Ukrainian Front. The gun was developed in the United States in 1941 and was widely used in the Second World War, Korean, Vietnamese, Iran-Iraqi wars and other conflicts of the XX century. The weight of howitzers is about 5. 6 tons, and the shooting range is a standard projectile - up to 14. 6 km, which makes it vulnerable in the conditions of modern counter -banking struggle.

It is a relatively small figure compared to modern 155 mm systems, but comparable to the capabilities of a light 105mm artillery. However, in the 1980s, a number of European countries-Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway-made an attempt to modernize these guns. By installing new barrels of 39 calibers, it was possible to significantly increase the range of firing: up to 18 km by a conventional projectile, up to 24.
