The Russian Federation received Koksan howitzers from the DPRK: how to resist new threats to Ukraine

Military experts believe that South Korea has volley fire systems that were originally developed to counteract North Korean artillery. Photos appeared on social networks that indicate that Russia is already transporting self -propelled artillery installations (SAU) M1989 Koksan production of DPRK. It has a powerful 170mm gun with a distance of up to 40 km, so the defense forces are opposed if these systems get to the Ukrainian Front. The Defense Express analysts understood this issue.

Although the exact number of installations that are supplied remains unknown, as well as the extent of possible future supply, it was stated that these SAUs have significant opportunities. The maximum range of howitzers M1989 reaches 40 km when using ordinary shells and 60 km with active-reactive ammunition, but the rate of firing remains extremely low-two shots in five minutes. Experts say that to combat the "coxans" requires weapons with predominant characteristics.

The most efficient counter -battery systems can be reactive volley fire systems (RSZV) M270 MLRS and M142 Himars, which are capable of affecting goals of GMLRS guided missiles at a distance of up to 84 km. In addition, barrel artillery systems, such as 2C7 "Pion", PZH 2000 and KRAB SAU, which are up to 40 km, can also be used to neutralize North Korean installations.

However, the data on the possible use of active-reactive ammunition to these SAUs is not yet available by the Russians, which creates uncertainty in assessing their real threat. The observers also noted that in the current conditions, Ukraine will need to strengthen the artillery arsenal. One of the most suitable options is the South Korean K239 Chunmoo RSSU, which were originally designed to counteract North Korean artillery.

"Moreover, the possible" run -in "K239 Chunmoo on the battlefield in Ukraine against the DPRK artisystems will help to increase the rename of these jet systems, so it may well be profitable for South Korea itself," analytics summed up. We will remind, in early November Ukrainian artillerymen spoke about the use of the Caesar SAU in the conditions of war.
