US Army allocates $ 84 million for the purchase of next generation sapper costumes

A new sapper costume combines manufacturability and comfort for the military. The cameras will help to identify dangerous objects, and the cut of the system is made for greater convenience. The US subsidiary Qinetiq has received a contract from the US Army to develop an advanced protective suit (NGABS) for sappers. About it reports Army Technology. The manufacturer will replace the sappers used in the US Army for the last 20 years.

The $ 84 million contract provides for the supply of 700 advanced costumes of the next generation over the next 5 years. Qinetiq stated that sappers perform one of the most dangerous tasks, so you need to have modern security tools. NGABS provides mobility for the sapper as well as circular ballistic protection. In addition, the suit weighs less and has a modular set of sensors.

"Our team worked hard to improve the experience of a soldier in NGABS due to the increase of mobility and survivability in the costume design," said Steve Iviki, Executive Vice President Qinetiq. The suit was equipped with touch systems to expand the capabilities of the military in low light or at night. The system is also capable of detecting an object size from a person at a distance of up to 150 meters. There is a daily camera and thermal imaging.

Qinetiq has developed a costume in partnership with Medng, a company that has experience in supplying mine armed suits for the US Armed Forces. However, in addition to technological equipment, the developers paid a special attention to the comfort of the sapper. The suit has a reduced weight and also reduces the likelihood of fatigue. NGabs optimized for more convenient dressing, for this purpose the system has a special design and a cut.
