Dragonfire laser weapons will be launched in serial production: the best it is by air defense (video)

MBDA, Leonardo and Qinetiq are developing laser systems to combat land and sea threats.

MBDA, Leonardo and Qinetiq started engineering development of serial variants of laser weapons of a long -range energy (LDEW), reports Naval News representatives of MBDA, Leonardo and Qinetiq confirmed Naval Naval and Latin) Methods tested by the Dragonfire laser prototype, tested together with the Laboratory of Defense Science and Technologies of the United Kingdom, the Scientific Unit of the UK Ministry of Defense. It is assumed that the new type will be used both at sea and on land.

LDEW will have an efficiency close to the average, against fast coastal shock ships, UAVs, as well as reconnaissance, reconnaissance and observation sensors (ISR). Kenny McCormic, one of Leonardo's leading engineers, said that the existing laser weapon system would have to be strengthened to make it suitable for use in real combat. He noted that the engineers are still using ready -made commercial equipment, but it may not withstand military conditions. And this problem has to be solved.

He also stated that it may be smaller in weight, size and power. The Dragonfire system, the development of which the Defense Ministry has invested more than £ 100 million, has a capacity of 50 kW. With her help, the military checked the work of LDEW, namely the possibility of capture, tracking, and goals.

Being the leader of the British consortium Dragonfire, Mbda UK plays a leading role in the development of the system, experts with Leonardo created a guide ray, which allows the LDEW system to cite and track moving goals with the accuracy of the lanter and the experts of the lammeter and the experts of the lammer unity of rays to increase power density and increase the range of lesions.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the latest comprehensive tests conducted on the Habrid islands in the fourth quarter of 2023 demonstrated the ability of Dragonfire to track and destroy dynamic air targets at a long distance. The LDEW system was tested at different power against typical aerial and marine goals at different distances, heights and speeds.
