Sirko-S1 land drone taught to return from the battlefield without GPS: Why is it important for the Armed Forces

If the robot has lost a signal from the operator, it will go to the place where the last time was caught, thanks to revolutionary technology. The Sirko-S1 land drone of Skylab is now able to return to the point where there is a connection without GPS and even a compass, using only sensors. The head of the project Yevhen Rachev told about it in his own Telegram channel. In combat, there is often the problem of loss of connection with drones, which is why it is difficult to find and return them.

Usually, the return of such a device is associated with the loss of time and resource, as well as the risk to life. Ukrainian UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) Sirko-S1 "learned" to do it even when satellite navigation does not work. "UGV Sirko-S1 proudly represents a revolutionary function that solves this problem-a return to a point of communication without GPS or compasses,"-said Evgeny Rachev. To find the road, the robot uses the data of Hall and Encode sensors.

When entering the task, he accurately monitors the path and direction. Mathematical algorithms allow you to restore the path to the point where there was a connection. The new option provides Sirko-S1 return from places where GPS does not work for some reason. This can be in the area of the IU or closed rooms. In fact, the drone to return does not require data from external sources. Operators do not waste time to determine the location and return work, and less risk losing it or endanger.

The developer says that "returning to the point of communication" is only one of the many innovative functions of UGV Sirko-S1. Sirko-S wheeled unmanned robot-a small platform weighing 45 kg with dimensions of 800 x 400 x 200 mm, capable of transporting a health load. The platform is equipped with a camera or thermal imaging, laser rangefinders and has an autonomous driving mode after a person. The drone is capable of bending obstacles and driving off -road.

The development demonstrated successful results in combat. The military has approached its work, and the developer has a fighting turl and mine module for the platform. Sirko-S1 has also been tested in extreme winter conditions. He successfully overcome the path in deep snow during -6 ° C and with a load of 200 kg. In December 2023, the modified Sirko-S1 MK2 demonstrated new ways of maneuvering on the road, descent and lifting, and even work underwater.
