The attempt failed: the Russian Federation failed to create a migration crisis on the Finnish border - ISW

According to experts, Finnish border guards do not let the majority of migrants into the territory of Finland, and that now the Russian authorities have to settle them in Russia. Specialists of the Institute of War Study (ISW) note that Russia's desire to provoke an artificial migration crisis at the border with Finland has failed due to the operational reaction of the Finnish authorities. This is stated in the ISW report.

"Russia's attempt to artificially create a migration crisis on the Finnish border seems to have failed due to the rapid reaction of the Finnish authorities," the source writes. On November 27, Finland Prime Minister Petter ORPO announced that, if necessary, the Finnish government would close the last border crossing point with Russia. He also reported that the Finnish government is ready to take additional measures in response to an artificially created migration crisis.

On November 23, Finland closed three border crossing points with Russia, leaving only the northernmost transition available. Several other Finnish officials also spoke to support the closure of the entire border with Russia.

The source of internal information in Russia stated that the first deputy head of the Presidential Administration Serhiy Kiriyenko instructed the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Vladimir Kolokoltsev to gather migrants from the Middle East, Africa and other regions and send them to the Finnish border. The source complained that Finnish border guards do not let the majority of migrants into the territory of Finland, and that the Russian authorities should now settle in Russia.
