According to the former prisoners of war, Budapest put them the condition - not to return to the territory of Ukraine before the end of the fighting, but five of the eleven men still returned home and reinstated. Two Ukrainian prisoners of war, which the Russian Federation transferred to Hungary, told about what conditions it happened. Deutsche Welle writes about it. According to journalists, Ivan and Andrew (names changed - ed.

) Were among the 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war, which Moscow handed over to Budapest in June 2023 because of its alleged Hungarian origin. At the same time, men stated that they have no Hungarian roots and consider themselves Ukrainian. Ivan and Andrew noted that before departure to Hungary, they were questioned by FSB representatives who informed them that they would be released, but they would not be taken to Ukraine.

"Hungary told Russia that our grandmothers could be Hungarians, so they take away their people," Ivan recalls, referring to the words of Russian special services. Former prisoners of war noted that out of 11 Transcarpathians, transferred to the Russians of Hungary, only one has a Hungarian origin "but I was told: either you say as you should - that you are a Hungarian, or it is unknown whether they would bring you back," Andrew said.

Men reported that on June 8 they were put on a plane in Istanbul, and from there - to Budapest, where they were met by a representative of Hungary, who did not name. The released prisoners of war noted that they were settled in the hotel complex, not guarded, did not restrict in moving and communicating with loved ones, but asked not to walk the city until they were given refugees.

In addition, Ivan and Andrew claim that Budapest's representatives made them a condition - not to return to the territory of Ukraine before the end of the war. Despite this, five men still decided to go home, including Ukrainian Hungarian origin. A representative of the missing person in the Transcarpathian region Vlasa Rapashi noted that she advised her former prisoners of war to contact the Embassy of Ukraine in Budapest.

The department provided them with documents and diplomatic machine for escort through the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. Upon returning to Ukraine, five former prisoners of war were rehabilitated and restored to the service. At the same time, Andrew noted that he was brought to the state and now he serves in the rear in Transcarpathia, while Ivan remained in the state, but is on vacation for health reasons.

Journalists also found that the third person undergoes treatment in a psychiatric hospital, the fourth will return to the front, and the fifth died of pneumonia. According to Ivan, after his leave, he plans to be dismissed to care for his wife with disabilities. He confessed that he was not sure whether it would remain in Ukraine. According to him, he returned to "not become a traitor for the country.

" In his turn, Andrew said that he wanted to live in Ukraine and does not regret a return, though disappointed that he could neither continue his service with a decent payment nor to be released. "If we went to fight ourselves, then we support this country. I would not change my decision," Andrew said. We will remind, on June 20, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Siyarto stated that the country is allegedly not involved in the export of 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war from Russia.

At the same time, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church confirmed the transfer of the group of Ukrainian prisoners to Hungary, noting that all of them were of "Transcarpathian origin", and the process took place "within the framework of inter -church cooperation at the request of the Hungarian side.
