"Will help survive winter": In Ukraine "revived" non-working American missiles AIM-9,-FT

"These missiles [AIM-9] were non-working. We repaired them. We found a way to run them from the ground. This is a kind of homemade air defense," the unnamed Ukrainian high-ranking official told the publication.

According to a high -ranking official, these modified shells will help to "survive winter", as Russia is expected to start attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, trying to immerse the country into darkness. However, this is a temporary solution and is not a long -term strategy.

The official noted that this is only one example in the framework of a greater initiative, according to which outdated materials that the US military declared unnecessary are transformed into an integral part of the Armed Forces. "We have a concerted decision when we take something outdated and do something else from it," the official summarized.

AIM-9 Sidewinder, an American missile with an infrared self-talent head designed for combat operations in the air, has become part of the US Air Force arsenal since its adoption in 1956. It remained the first in the world in the air-controlled air-air missile. Since then, it has been constantly modernized, and it has been successfully operated in various armed forces in many countries. Initially, this rocket was created to use exclusively US Navy.

However, after successful comparative tests, which demonstrated its outstanding characteristics compared to the other development-the GAR-1 FALCON missile, it was also introduced into the ASCC Arsenal. During the Vietnam War, the rocket was successfully used by the Navy and the Air Force, where it demonstrated outstanding combat capabilities for that time.
