Lost a residence permit: Latvia more than half of the Russians failed a language -language test

About 25,000 Russian citizens were faced with the termination of their automatic residence permit in Latvia. In order to stay in the country, Russians need to formulate a new status that involves a language certificate A2. More than half of the citizens of the Russian Federation living in Latvia have not passed the Latvian exam in the A2 category. About it writes Delfi on September 5 with reference to the head of the Center for Education Content Liene Voronenko.

It is reported that 11,301 Russians took part in the testing. Of these, 6893 people were unable to pass an exam equal to 61%. The Language Certificate of A2 Russians is needed to obtain the status of a permanent EU resident in Latvia, since the automatic residence permit provided to citizens of the Russian Federation ceased its validity on September 2. It could be continued by the end of the year, enrollment in the recessing of the language proficiency.

In total, about 25,000 Russians living in Latvia have affected the Immigration Law. Of these, 18,000 people had to take a test for Latvian. Requirements for the language exam do not apply to persons younger than 14 and older than 75 years, as well as those who have been educated in Latvian. The reason for the release from testing may also be a rehabilitologist or psychiatrist.

As previously noted in the publication, those citizens of the Russian Federation, who until September 1 did not submit documents for registration of the status of a permanent resident of the EU in Latvia, in September will receive letters asking to leave the country. We will remind, on September 5 in Latvia a court was held over a former deputy of the Riga Duma Igor Kuzmuk.
