Nuclear weapons in Belarus: Minsk was in "nuclear hostages" with Putin - Danilov

The response of the event to Putin's statement was ambiguous. In particular, the Pentagon stated that they did not see the signs that Moscow is preparing to use nuclear weapons, and the German Foreign Ministry accused Moscow of nuclear intimidation.

The secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Alexei Danilov stated that the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin about the placement of nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus indicates that the Kremlin took Minsk in "nuclear hostages". Danilov wrote about it on March 26 in his Twitter.

According to the NSDC Secretary, the statements of the President of the aggressor country lead to destabilization of the situation in Belarus, as it increases the level of negative attitude among Belarusian citizens to Russia and specifically to Putin. "Putin's statement about the placement of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus - a step to the country's internal destabilization - maximizes the level of negative perception and social rejection in the Belarusian society of Russia and Putin.

The Kremlin took Belarus into nuclear hostages," Danilov said. Meanwhile, in the West, Putin was treated differently about the intention to place tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. As reported by Reuters on March 25, the US Department of Defense does not see nuclear escalation in Moscow. According to the representatives of the Pentagon, there are no signs that Russia is preparing to use weapons of mass destruction.

"We do not see any reasons for adjusting our own strategic nuclear position, as well as no signs that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons. We remain devoted to the collective defense of the NATO Alliance," the Pentagon said. For their part, diplomats from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs have accused the Kremlin of further attempts by nuclear intimidation. They emphasized that Belarus at one time pledged to the international level in the status of a non -nuclear state.
