Primitive but effectively: all that is known about Russian winged bombs of UMPC (photo)

The UPMK is a set of wings for unmanaged bombs of the Fab series. It was they who bombed Belgorod in April, and are now actively used by Russian aviation. These are primitive kits that are given on the GPS system. Since the beginning of 2023, sets of wings for aviation have appeared in the Russian Federation, allowing them to be managed. The War Zone figured out what the UMPC was known and what they threaten the Armed Forces.

The technologically Russian unified planning and correction module (UMPC) is not compared to US JDAM by any parameters, they write in the publication. However, the air and space forces of the Russian Federation are actively used, which is a significant problem for Ukraine. The first information on the use of the UMPC appeared on January 4, 2023, and already on April 4, 2023, a spokesman for the Air Force of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat said that the occupiers were running up to 20 planning bombs a day.

They are launched from Su-34 fighters and Su-35 fighters. The difficulty is that they are almost impossible to beat. The idea of creating managed bombs appeared in the military to create a cheap managed airbomb with increased radius and accuracy. The Russian Federation first showed the CMPC project in 2002 for the Fab-500 Air Bomb. Since then, the project has not gone into the series, but the full -scale war has returned the Russian Federation to create wings for aviation.

The main disadvantage of the Russian UMPC is that unlike the American JDAM, they are made in the form of welded monoliths. It is impossible to remove the tail part and replace it with a guide block. However, the kit can be installed on the bomb not at the factory, but the operator before departure. From the existing illustrations, the authors come to the conclusion that the UMPC is essentially a handicraft device that made fast. He was sent to the troops without the necessary trials.

Analysts believe that a set of wings has low productivity and a high percentage of refusals. Also, the weight of the Fab-500M-62 bomb actually exceeds the load of the most common Russian armament pylons, which is up to 500 kg. This can cause the bomb to break during the plane maneuvers. Another disadvantage of the UMPC is that the bomb fuse switches to a state of "readiness", as in a regular bomb, that is, at the time of separation from the aircraft.

In other winged bombs, the passion works later, during the flight. This means that if the wing does not open, then the bomb can fall and explode, including in the Russian or controlled territory. It happened in Belgorod on April 20. The product range is much smaller than declared in the Russian Federation and does not reach 90 km, as is the JDAM. The UMPC is provided with a comte module, which accepts GPS and GLONASS signal. It is almost entirely made up of imported parts.
