The meeting will not take place in the near future: preparations for the Putin-Trump summit have been suspended, media reports

Share: Planning for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest has been temporarily halted. The White House explained this by the fact that the parties have not yet reached the necessary level of readiness for negotiations. According to NBC News correspondent Garrett Haake, citing a senior White House official, the process of preparing for the summit is "on hold.

" According to the source, the preliminary conversation between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was "productive", but President Trump believes that it is too early to move on to the next stage of negotiations. As reported by the Reuters agency with reference to an unnamed high-ranking official of the White House, Trump and Putin do not plan a personal meeting "in the near future.

" This decision was made just a few days after the US president announced his intention to hold a new summit with his Russian counterpart. The administration representative also said that Secretary of State Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov have no plans to meet in person. They limited themselves to telephone talks, which the American side assessed as "productive", but insufficient for further steps towards the summit.

It is worth noting that CNN, citing anonymous informed sources, predicted that the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest may not take place. A preliminary meeting between US Secretary of State Mark Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that was supposed to take place this week has been postponed indefinitely due to differing expectations of a possible end to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, according to sources.

During a telephone conversation between Rubio and Lavrov on October 20, the parties discussed "next steps" in resolving the conflict, but, according to sources, government officials felt that Russia was not sufficiently ready to compromise. Also, Focus, referring to the Financial Times article, wrote that Putin expects to win the war not with weapons, but with influence on Trump, and sees in him a chance to obtain concessions from the United States.
