EU countries, feeling the risk of energy safety due to too much dependence on one source, began to study their past mistakes. In 2022, the European Union put a great bet on the US St. burst after giving up the cheap Russian energy that he relied on for years. Europe has spent billions on the LNG infrastructure and signed many new contracts. The United States is now supplying Europe with almost 50 percent of LNGs - compared to about a quarter before the war.
LNG displaced pipeline gas as the most important source of supply. Since the beginning of the full -scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine two years ago, the EU and the United Kingdom hastened to replace Russian gas, which was mainly supplied through pipelines throughout the continent, the marine supply of the American LNG.
After the start of the war, European firms quickly expanded their port infrastructure and built a regasification factories that return liquid gas to a suitable form for use, planning long -term imports from the United States, also signed a number of short -term LNG contracts with US organizations. This provided flexibility as renewable energy spreads, but complicated the provision of low prices and understanding where energy would come in five or ten years.
