The systems of this class were prohibited by 2019 on the elimination of medium and shorter missiles (DRSMD), from which the United States came from a violation from Russia. After that, the Pentagon began to develop starting installations with a range from 500 to 1800+ km, and the Typhon complex became the land component of this new course. Germany evaluates the complex as a means of significantly strengthening its own capabilities and increasing the potential of NATO restraint in Europe.
Against the background of increased confrontation with the Russian Federation, the decision to purchase medium -range American missiles can be considered as a turning point in Germany's military policy, which has long been without offensive weapons. The decision of Germany to buy a Medium -range missile complex in the United States has caused a lively reaction among Russian military analysts.
Defense Express observers note that the Kremlin is seriously concerned not only by strengthening the potential of the Bundeswehr, but also by how the United States can use this agreement to strengthen military pressure on Russia in Europe. According to Russian observers, the United States can implement the following model: formally refusing to constantly place weapons in Europe, Americans will sell rocket complexes to their allies, especially Germany.
At the same time, US missile units will be able to come to Germany and other European countries for "training" regularly, in fact providing training and technical support for systems. This approach causes fear in Moscow, as it is a possible deployment of shock means at the European Theater under the cover of a "educational process".
Additional anxiety in Russia is also the fact that Germany preferred American Typhon instead of participating in the European program Land Combat Missile (LCM), developed by France. In the Russian media, this is interpreted as a sign of weakness in Europe's defensive integration, which, in their opinion, opens the US path to dominate the continent.
