In this regard, Army Recognition reviewers spoke about the combat use of weapons, as well as the prospects of its use in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The first information on the completion of the modification of Ukrainian "Neptunes" to defeat land purposes and their combat use appeared in September last year, when an advanced rocket was used to effectively defeat in Crimea Russian S-300 or C-400.
The observers also noted that Neptune rocket was used in the night attack on July 31 at Khalino's military airfield near Kursk, Russia. According to sources, the rocket was aimed at ammunition at the airfield and destroyed it. "This is one of the first cases of use of the Neptune modified missile in battle after the reports last September about its successful use against Russian air defense systems in Crimea," the material reads.
Initially developed in 2018 by the Luch Design Bureau as an anti-ship rocket with a range of 280-300 kilometers, the new version of Neptune can also affect ground targets. It is able to develop speeds up to 900 km/h and fly at a height of 10 to 300 meters, decreasing to three meters at the final stage of flight to bypass the enemy air defense. The rocket attracted the attention of the international community in April 2022, when it was squeezed by the Russian missile cruiser "Moscow".
Experts emphasize that Ukraine plans to continue the development of its missile capabilities, seeking to increase the range of its winged missiles to 1000 kilometers. In response, Russian analysts propose to deploy additional air defense systems, such as C-400 and "Buk-M3", as well as strengthen protection by installing towers and radar systems to combat goals that fly low.
