In the first months of the war, Iskander-M ballistic missiles were a weapon that hit the target almost 100% of the time, but the old Soviet stocks soon ran out, according to a post by Oleksandr Kovalenko, a military observer of the Information Resistance group, on his Facebook page. At first, the Russian military-industrial complex managed only one missile for 2-3 days (10-15 per month).
However, by the fall of 2025, the Russians began to produce two missiles per day (that is, up to 60 per month). According to the observer, ballistics will be the weapon with which the Russian Federation will attack Ukraine in the coming months. According to him, this weapon has once again become a "means of inevitable terror".
The observer calculated that during the first 10 days of November, the Russian Armed Forces launched more than 1,600 drones of various types ("Shakhediv", "Gerber", "Parody") over Ukraine. At the same time, anti-aircraft missiles knocked down 80% of targets and there were more than 300 hits (the effectiveness of anti-aircraft defenses fell by 20% compared to October).
Meanwhile, in the set of means of destruction of the Russian Federation, there were significantly more ballistic missiles - Russian "Iskander-M" and North Korean KN-23. The question arose, why there are more of them, because the Russians have a large number of winged X-101s and "Calibers" in stock.
Kovalenko explained that the reason is the growth of ballistics production and the fact that Western manufacturers have not yet modified the Ukrainian Patriot and IRIS-T air defense systems for improved Russian missiles. In addition, the launch capabilities of the X-101 have decreased due to the "Spider" operation.
With this in mind, he expects that in the near future, by the end of November, the Russian Federation will use exactly this type of means of destruction, simultaneously attacking with cheap kamikaze drones. "Russia will continue to increase the terror of Ukraine with ballistic weapons. It is ballistics that guarantees the enemy the inevitable defeat of the intended target in the vast majority of cases," the post reads. Kovalenko emphasized the main danger from ballistics.
When the planes of the Russian Armed Forces take off to launch the X-101 or "Kinzhal", it is recorded and the Ukrainians have about an hour to prepare for the appearance of the missile. The launch of the ballistic "Iskander" becomes known at the same moment as it happens, that is, there is no time gap, as with airplanes.
"It is impossible to predict the launch of the 9M723, since the ballistic missile is fixed only at the moment of launch and in some cases it is possible to fix the exit to the position of the launcher," the observer noted. To protect against ballistics, you should work in two directions. On the one hand, the manufacturers of the Patriot and IRIS-T air defense systems must modify the installations to make them more effective.
From the second, the Defense Forces must destroy the Russian Federation's ability to manufacture ballistic missiles - strike at production, logistics, and stop supplies from abroad. It should be noted that one of the last powerful shelling of Ukraine took place on the night of November 7-8. The Russians fired 35 ballistic missiles at the Ukrainians (a total of 42 of all types): air defenses shot down only nine.
