In Europe, the introduction of hybrid ammunition of 6.8x51 mm caliber for shooting weapons

This type of ammunition has both advantages and some disadvantages. However, the undisputed advantage of hybrid ammunition 6. 8x51 mm with a 113-gram ball is their speed and punching capacity. In the world of army firearms, revolutionary solutions are rare. However, one of them is a 6.

8x51 mm hybrid cartridge, developed by the US SIG SAUER for the US Army, following the example of Americans and in the current crisis in relations with Russia, Scandinavian countries have an increased interest in this ammunition. This is stated in detail in Army Recognition. It is noted that the Scandinavian armies seek to increase the efficiency of their armed forces in the current crisis with Russia.

The intense geopolitical situation in Eastern Europe, intensified by hostilities and verbal threats of Moscow during President Vladimir Putin, prompted NATO countries, including in the Scandinavian region, to review their defense needs.

In this regard, a series of official presentations are planned in the near future, during which SIG SAUER leaders will visit several Scandinavian countries in Europe against the background of the desire to increase the combat capability of their armies due to tension with the Russian Federation. SIG SAUER has developed a new 6. 8x51 mm caliber cartridge, which is radically different from the existing 5. 56x45 mm caliber cartridges and 7. 62x51 mm by NATO standard.

Using a steel sleeve with a brass body, the cartridge is able to withstand much higher pressure. 6. 8x51 mm hybrid ammunition with a 113-gram ball have both significant advantages over NATO standards available and some disadvantages. This cartridge has a high speed and punch capacity. The bullet of this caliber is able to punch modern ceramic armor, widely used in the army of different countries. At the same time ammunition 6. 8x51 mm have excellent range and accuracy of firing.

However, as for compatibility with new types of ammunition, they definitely need a special weapon, such as the XM7 rifle, chosen by the US Army. Sig Sauer is already working on the creation of a modified projectile that can be exported to the Allies, despite the restrictions that exist for the American variant. The Scandinavian countries are likely to be the first to adapt their armies to a new cartridge 6. 8x51 mm, which can lead to its further spread among NATO countries.

In the future, it is planned to use assault rifles and machine guns adapted to this cartridge to ensure high combat efficiency. Despite the fact that in the first stage, the new ammunition will coexist with existing standards, its implementation can be a key factor in ensuring the operational advantage and flexibility of armies in the future. "The interest of the Scandinavian armies in hybrid weapons and 6. 8x51 mm ammunition is an important step towards modernizing their military capabilities.
