She noted that she had returned from Chernihiv Oblast, where local residents in villages have been living without electricity for the third day after an attack on an energy facility in Nizhyn, confirmed by official sources. According to her, the complete blackout of electricity in the region actually made normal life impossible. She emphasized that it is not only about everyday inconveniences, but about the violation of the basic conditions of survival.
In particular, in the absence of electricity, residents were left without mobile communication, which was unstable before. After the destruction of the telecommunications towers by the Russian troops in 2022, they were never restored, so communication in the villages was maintained exclusively on Wi-Fi. The blackout completely cut off people from calling 911 or reporting danger. In addition, pumping stations supplying water to private households stopped due to blackouts.
Nikolayenko reminded that most of the wells in the villages of Chernihiv Oblast have dried up a long time ago, and the wells work only with electricity. Thus, a significant part of households remained without access to drinking water. The journalist emphasized that there is not enough water in local stores, and it is simply impossible to buy it in sufficient quantities.
In the post, she also harshly criticized the Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko, accusing him of the failure of tenders for the development of decentralized generation in the region. According to Nikolayenko, the winners of these competitions were supposed to be the participants who agreed to terms favorable to the ministry, while the projects that could provide real energy supply to the communities were actually ignored.
As a result, she claims, state funds were directed to the construction of facilities in Kozyna, instead of the development of backup power sources in the region. The journalist also noted that even the presence of some residents of private generators does not solve the problem. Generators are heavy, often break, need repair, and there are no service specialists in remote villages.
According to her, many people are simply physically unable to carry or operate equipment that weighs more than 60 kilograms. Also, on November 17, the Ministry of Energy reported that Russian troops had recently attacked energy facilities in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Odesa, and Donetsk regions. Restoration work is ongoing at damaged stations, and hourly blackouts are in effect in most regions.
Schedules are published by local operators who urge the population to use electricity sparingly, especially during peak hours. We will remind that on the evening of November 16, a blackout occurred in Donetsk and Makiivka due to a series of explosions in the occupied part of Donetsk region, and power outages were recorded in other cities of the region.
