Researchers say that the drones, working together, are able to fly faster and overcome greater distances than separately. To achieve even more efficiency, the team decided to design aircraft on the same principle as maple seeds.

The unique structure of the seeds, including the winged cotyledon, which rotates around it, provides lift and allows it to extend and even rise to a certain height in windy weather. Drones inspired by maple seeds can be used in future wars, especially in situations where a whole swarm of UAVs should be used. However, the task is to ensure long distance flight efficiency.

During flight tests, a combined drone and individual drones proved to be very steady. However, the maximum flight speed of the combined drone was incomparable with some military UAVs.
