Analysts say that shooting with T-62 in artillery mode cannot boast accuracy. The situation is not rescued by the lateral levels, as well as the azimuth indicators to assist in the artillery, which is equipped with a tank. Russian troops use old T-62 tanks as self-propelled artillery installations on the front line. This adaptation has been shown in a video that demonstrates a new role in the ongoing war with Ukraine. This was reported on December 27 in Army Recognition.

The observers drew attention to the video on Russian Telegram channels, where the T-62M Tank of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is fire from a closed position, playing the role of the artillery system. This decision came against the backdrop of threats waiting for tanks in direct combat collision.

"A noticeable failure in the war in Ukraine was the lack of use of major combat tanks, mostly due to the appearance of unmanned aircraft, which completely changed the course of conflict and probably future conflicts," experts say. In this way, Russian troops find an alternative use of a large number of tanks that have become ineffective due to a small, economical, but highly effective UAV.

The observers also clarified that the range of the T-62 goal fire reaches 1000 m, but in the so-called SAU mode, the range increases to 6 km. This opportunity was provided by designers that included the lateral levels and azimuth tank equipment to assist in the artillery. However, the accuracy of these improvised artillery plants leaves much to be desired, so the fire is adjusted with a drone. The video shows that the renovated Russian T-62 lacks appropriate communication equipment.

The tank gunner is forced to coordinate his actions with the drone operator through civilians and a smartphone communication program, experts write. In addition, other problems are noticeable - for example, the standard mechanism of leaks in the back of the tank tower does not function, which causes the shoots to accumulate on the floor. In conclusion, the experts suggested that the occupiers chose the T-62 for such tasks because the tank is relatively easy to maintain and operated.
