The research conducted by the ISW experts using the Mercator's project showed that about 53% of the territory captured by Russian troops since February 2022 was released by the Ukrainian forces. According to the statement of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the Armed Forces have made progress in the liberation of about 50% of the territory, which was captured by Russian troops since the beginning of a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
This figure corresponds to ISW experts on territory control. However, as experts emphasize, assessments of territory control may vary by the use of various sources of data, measurement methods and forecasts. Analysts can apply different approaches to determining control over the territory, which can lead to various results depending on the chosen cartographic projection and other factors. Inaccurate and false statements of the parties about territorial acquisitions can also affect such estimates.
