British pilots intercepted military aircraft near NATO borders - media

The pilots of the British Air Force confessed that Russian military aircraft were often seen over the Baltic Sea. This time, the tranquility near the borders violated IL-20, accompanied by two Su-27 fighters. On Monday, April 17, the Royal Air Force of Britain intercepted two Russian fighters and a reconnaissance aircraft flying near NATO airspace over the Gulf of Finnish and the Baltic Sea. About it reports The Independent.

According to the newspaper, the Eurofighter Typhoon fighters from the 9th Squadron of the UK Air Force and the 71st Wing of the Richofen Germany Air Force flew to the eastern NATO border on Friday, not far from Estonia. It turned out that one of the aircraft was the IL-20 Air Force reconnaissance aircraft flying from the mainland of Russia to Kaliningrad. It was accompanied by two Su-27 Flanker-B fighters.

According to one of the pilots involved in the operation, the royal Air Force is often seen by Russian planes over the Baltic Sea, so the interception was common. "However, the importance of intercepting Russian aircraft and our commitment to the collective protection of NATO aircraft remains unchanged and determined. This interception helped to understand that together with our German allies we can act quickly and decisively to effectively ensure the security of the alliance," the pilot said.
