Meeting Vitcoff and Putin: The Kremlin thought about concessions in the war against Ukraine - the media

To spread: the discussion after the negotiations of Vladimir Putin with the American representative Steve Witkoff intensified in Moscow. The Russian leadership evaluates which territory can be left without control. Following the recent negotiations of Russian President Vladimir Putin with US President Special Representative Steve Witcoff in the Kremlin, internal consultations on possible concessions in the war against Ukraine began, RBC-Ukraine reports.

According to the sources of the publication, negotiations with Vitcoff were the impetus for Moscow to review the rigid position on territories. It is discussed which captured regions Russia can refuse to reduce external pressure and avoid new sanctions. Immediately after the meeting, which took place on August 6 in Moscow and lasted three hours, the Russian Federation Security Council held at least two meetings - one of them lasted six hours, five at the other.

The main issue, according to the interlocutors, concerned the possible scenarios of partial abandonment of the occupied territories. There are also options for changing official rhetoric on war, including the possibility of "strategic goals' implementation" applications without actually fixing control over all captured areas. In parallel, the US is actively preparing a personal meeting of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

The visit of the special representative is considered as a preparatory stage for larger negotiations, including with the participation of Ukraine. It was reported that in early July Donald Trump spent telephone conversations with Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky. After that, the United States intensified diplomatic work, in particular due to increased pressure on Russia's partners. Trump announced the intention to hold a tripartite summit after meeting Putin.
