Energy from Russia is no longer needed: a source with a potential of 500,000 megawatts found

To spread: It is expected that advanced energy sources will continuously nourish military facilities during crashes on the power grid. The US company Baker Hughes has been selected by the US Air Force and the Main Directorate of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence (CDAO) to study the potential of geothermal energy to provide electricity to US military bases around the world. About it writes the portal Interesting Engineering.

Geothermal energy does not produce greenhouse gases and is considered one of the alternatives to fossil fuel, including oil and gas. This type of energy is especially attractive for military purposes in case of power supply. According to the US geological service, the US west has geothermal sources with a potential of about 500,000 megawatts.

In view of this, Baker Hughes will consider the development of geothermal sources of industrial scale capable of ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to US military. "Geothermal energy can provide reliable and safe basic power," said Vice president of geothermal energy in Baker Hughes Ajit Menon.

Earlier, in 2024, the US company Sage Geosystems also announced the conclusion of a US Air Force contract for pilot tests of its innovative Geothermal Energy Energy System Geothermal Systems in Texas. This project can open the way to wider use at military facilities and other places. Kirk Phillips, Director of the Energy Office of the Air Force Kirk, stated that the main purpose of the initiative is to increase its operational stability, especially in the event of an electricity failure.
