Share: Russia's Oreshnyk complex, touted by President Vladimir Putin, is similar...

What kind of weapon is the "Oreshnyk" similar to, what is the damage zone and will Kyiv reach Paris (map)

Share: Russia's Oreshnyk complex, touted by President Vladimir Putin, is similar in some features to the old Soviet Pioneer complex, analysts said. However, during the times of the USSR, almost a hundred complexes and missiles were manufactured per year. And modern Russia has an order of magnitude less capabilities. The Defense Express portal reacted to the statement of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who clarified the technical characteristics of the Oreshnyk missile.

Knowing that it flies for 5,500 km and has a "blind zone" of 700 km, analysts mapped the conditional zone of damage. At the same time, they considered the option that the launch complex would be located at a training ground in Belarus near Minsk. It turned out that when launching from Belarus, Ukraine is almost safe: Kyiv, northern and central regions are in the "blind" zone. The south and east will remain under threat, according to the Defense Express infographic.

At the same time, Zelenskyi's words are confirmed that these weapons, first of all, should frighten Europeans. The Oreshnyk medium-range ballistic missile's target area is all of Western Europe, including Ireland and Greenland. The situation is similar in Asia — the entire Arabian Peninsula, Iran, the countries of Central Asia, India and, partly, China. Africa is also unlucky: "Hazelnut" will affect the northern part of the continent.

On the other hand, the USA and Canada will definitely not suffer from this weapon, analysts have shown. Focusing on the range, the analysts specified which weapon the Oreshnyk is most similar to. According to DE, it is a mobile ground-based missile complex (PGRK) "Pioneer" (RSD-10). Estimated range — from 600 to 5,500 km, specified in the article. The first version of the "Pioneer" of the USSR began to be used in 1976, the newer one - in 1980.

In the classification of the Main Artillery Directorate (GRAU) of the Russian Federation, the improved complex has the index 15P653, and the missile is 15Ж53, or SS-20 mod. 2 Saber (NATO). There were no subsequent versions, as the USSR signed an arms limitation treaty. The military portals of the Russian Federation indicate that as of 1987, the USSR produced 450 launchers and 650 missiles with a warhead weight of 1. 74 tons (assuming that 64 launchers and 93 missiles were produced per year).

The missile could carry three warheads. The power is 15 megatons in TNT equivalent, the accuracy is 450 meters. It should be noted that the Oreshnyk complex is, in fact, a RS-26 "Rubezh" solid-fuel medium-range ballistic missile, which, in turn, is based on the RS-24 "Yars". We are talking about weapons already created by Russia, not the USSR.
