The United States supported a bill on confiscation of $ 300 billion of frozen assets of the Russian Federation - Bloomberg

According to journalists, the draft law will allow the US to use Russian sovereign assets in the interests of Ukraine. Representatives of the US government have expressed support for the bill, which provides for the possibility of confiscation of frozen assets of the Russian Federation, estimated at about $ 300 billion. These funds will be directed for restoration work in Ukraine. About it writes Bloomberg with reference to the notes of the US National Security Council (RNB) to Congress.

"The bill will give the executive power the powers necessary for the arrest of Russian sovereign assets in the interests of Ukraine," the document reports. The source in the leadership of the Agency confirmed the official position of the White House, noting that this topic will be considered at the future meeting of the countries of the Great Seven (G7), appointed before the second anniversary of a full -scale invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier, US authorities have instructed three working groups to study options for confiscation of Russian assets by February 24, 2024, Financial Times reports. Canada, the United Kingdom and Japan took part in this work. And Germany, France and Italy have expressed their objections, emphasizing the need to carefully study the legality of such steps.

According to the source, various scenarios are currently considering, including direct confiscation and use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation for the expenses of Ukraine, as well as the possibility of using the income received or the use of these funds as collateral when receiving loans. Most of the locked assets in the European Union, estimated at approximately 191 billion euros, was frozen at the Belgian Depository of EuroClear.

In addition, France arrested assets worth 19 billion euros. In other countries, the proportion of frozen assets is significantly smaller, for example, in Germany, this volume is approximately 210 million euros. In the United States of America, only $ 5 billion has blocked assets. Recall that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on international partners to accelerate the development of a legal basis for the use of $ 300 billion of frozen Russian assets in support of Ukraine.
