Trump proposes the EU to introduce tariffs up to 100% against Putin's allies to stop the Russian Federation in Ukraine - the media

To spread: US President Donald Trump has made the idea of raising duties to 100% against countries that support or cooperate with Russia. In his opinion, such a step should force the Kremlin to end the war against Ukraine. According to The Guardian, Trump appealed to the European Union to join the introduction of the highest possible tariffs against China and India.

According to Financial Times, BBC and Bloomberg, the issue was discussed at a meeting of US and EU representatives on Tuesday in Washington, where the parties considered additional economic measures against Russia. One of the American officials who are acquainted with the course of discussions said Washington was ready to act immediately, but only if European partners support.

Trump's initiative was made against the backdrop of his dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in a peaceful settlement, in particular after a resonant summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. An additional factor was the mass attacks of drones against Ukraine, among which last week the greatest air attack during the war took place.

As reported by Focus, at the beginning of this week, US Finance Minister Scott Bessent said that the Presidential Administration Donald Trump was considering the application of new sanctions against Russia. He noted that after a summit on Alaska, Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite his promises, intensified the bombing of Ukraine.
